Dan Cameron, the new Director of Visual Arts at the Contemporary Arts Center, came to New Orleans from New York and is renown for composing cutting-edge exhibits and for organizing successful international shows. Cameron’s main attraction to his new post in New Orleans centered around the opportunity to build on New Orleans’ cultural legacy, connecting it to international art shows such as the Venice Biennale and Art Basel.
In Fall 2008, the CAC will stage the United States’ only international contemporary arts exhibit, "Prospect.1 New Orleans," a $2.9 million citywide art extravaganza and the brainchild of Cameron. Prospect.1 is being designed to help reinvigorate post-Katrina New Orleans with a long-term goal to redefine the city as a cultural destination where the visual arts are celebrated.
